Alstroemeria mosaic viruses are a group of diseases caused by a complex of viruses (including AlMV, CMV, TSWV, AlSV) that lead to leaf deformation, flower discoloration, and stunted plant growth.

The primary pathogen of this group of diseases is Alstroemeria mosaic virus (AlMV), which belongs to the genus Potyvirus. In addition, similar symptoms of mosaic and streak in the crop are caused by AlCV, CMV, TSWV, INSV, and ArMV viruses. Due to the vegetative propagation of Alstroemeria, viral infections pose a high risk to the health of planting material.

Interveinal streaking, chlorotic spots, and elongated light-green stripes appear on the leaves of infected plants, accompanied by the curling of leaf blades. The flowers are subject to color breaking, where the natural color is disrupted and atypical spots appear. The disease often proceeds latently, making infected plants hidden sources of the virus.

Classic resistance genes to these viruses have not been identified in Alstroemeria cultivars. Modern approaches to solving the problem are based on biotechnological methods, including the use of RNA-mediated resistance through the introduction of fragments of the AlMV virus capsid protein gene into the genome.
