Cucumber leaf curl is not a single pathogen but a symptom complex caused by members of the Geminiviridae family. The primary agents are begomoviruses, including Cucumber leaf curl virus and Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus, which cause curling and deformation of leaf blades, mosaic patterns, and severe stunting of plants.
Diagnosis is complicated by the fact that similar curling symptoms can be caused by physiological stress due to irregularities in irrigation or temperature regimes, nutrient deficiencies, or pest damage.
