Grapevine leafroll disease

Vitis L.

A complex viral disease caused by a group of GLRaV viruses from the Closteroviridae family. It manifests as a characteristic downward rolling of leaf margins and discoloration, leading to a significant reduction in yield and berry quality.

In the reference 4 varieties crop Grapevine, where this is mentioned in the description.

The pathogens of the disease are viruses grouped under the common name Grapevine leafroll-associated viruses (GLRaV), the most significant of which are recognized as GLRaV-1, GLRaV-2, GLRaV-3, as well as GLRaV-4, 7, 10, and 13. For the most damaging GLRaV-3, high genetic variability has been described, including up to 9 phylogenetic groups and about 10 sequence variants.

The clinical presentation of the disease varies depending on the grapevine variety and rootstock. Dark-berried varieties exhibit interveinal reddening or purple spotting while the veins remain green, whereas white varieties show yellowing of the leaf blades. The symptoms are accompanied by stunted plant growth, reduced juice sugar content, and delayed berry ripening, which together lead to yield losses of 15–40%.
