The variety originates from the northern regions of Spain and is used exclusively for wine production, including single-varietal wines, blends, and naturally sweet wines. The vines are vigorous, leaves are medium-sized, rounded, three- or five-lobed with a glabrous underside. Bunches are large, compact, and cylindrical-conical in shape. Berries are medium-sized, round, and slightly flattened at the poles.
The variety is characterized by high drought tolerance and low susceptibility to powdery mildew, mites, and leafrollers; however, it is highly sensitive to gray mold, bacterial diseases, and eutypiosis. Wines produced from it are characterized by full body, moderate acidity, and high alcohol content. The variety is prone to oxidation, which requires special attention during production.
