The variety belongs to the medium-late ripening period. The bunches are medium or large, often cylindrical, and can be compact. The berries are medium-sized, acquiring a golden-yellow hue upon ripening, sometimes with brown spots; the berry skin is quite thick. The variety is considered susceptible to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and gray mold.
The name is a collective term under which several different varieties and clones are known in Italy. The variety is considered antique; there is a hypothesis that it was introduced to the territory of Southern Italy by Greek colonists.
The variety is exclusively for winemaking. Wines produced from it are characterized by high acidity, minerality, and aging potential. The aroma profile includes notes of grapefruit, yellow peach, apricot, white flowers, honey, and ginger.
