The variety is a wine grape and is unrelated to white grape varieties named "Grechetto". Historically, it is grown in the Tuscia region in central Italy. It is officially recognized as a synonym for the Sangiovese variety.
Wines made from this variety possess aromas of red fruits, spices, as well as earthy and herbal notes. The variety is characterized by a late ripening period and medium vigor. It prefers a temperate climate and dry calcareous soils.
