The variety is autochthonous to Italy and historically belongs to folk selection. Genetic studies have confirmed that Grechetto Gentile is not identical to the Grechetto di Orvieto variety, as previously believed.
The plant possesses high vigor and low yield. Due to less compact clusters, the variety is less susceptible to fungal diseases associated with berry rot.
The grapes are used in winemaking to produce still and sparkling wines. The resulting wines are characterized by a full-bodied nature, freshness, pronounced exotic fruit aromatics, floral notes, and a characteristic bitter aftertaste.
