A viral disease of common bean caused by the Bean leaf roll virus, manifesting as chlorosis and plant stunting. The disease is transmitted by aphids in a persistent manner and is not seed-borne or mechanically transmissible.

The causative agent of the disease is the Bean leaf roll virus (BLRV), which belongs to the genus Luteovirus. Symptoms of infection in common bean are characterized by yellowing of the leaf blade and pronounced growth retardation, leading to plant stunting.
The virus is transmitted exclusively by aphid vectors, such as Acyrthosiphon pisum, Aphis craccivora, and Myzus persicae. The infection is not transmitted by mechanical inoculation or through seed material, and its natural reservoirs are perennial leguminous grasses, including clover and alfalfa, in which the pathogen often persists asymptomatically.
In the scientific literature, there are no descriptions of specific resistance genes or the division of the virus into distinct races or pathotypes in relation to common bean. Breeding efforts regarding this virus are limited to the search for tolerant lines with reduced expression of disease symptoms.
