Triticum durum Desf.

An important morphological trait of durum wheat, measured from the soil surface to the top of the spike, excluding awns. Culm height directly determines lodging resistance and the yield potential of a cultivar.

Tall forms are more prone to lodging, which negatively affects crop quality and the harvesting process. Short-stemmed cultivars exhibit increased resistance to lodging, and the breeding-driven reduction in height is often combined with an increase in spike size for more efficient plant resource allocation.
