Drought tolerance of roses

A complex physiological indicator of the ability of roses to adapt to hydrothermal stress, determined through laboratory analysis of the state of leaf tissues and membranes.

To assess the drought tolerance of roses, laboratory analysis methods are used on plant tissues subjected to moisture deficit. The primary diagnostic criteria include the accumulation level of free proline, leaf water-holding capacity, and the degree of cellular membrane resistance to stress-induced damage.

Drought tolerance indicators are expressed as a percentage of the fresh sample mass, characterizing tissue hydration and the proportion of retained moisture. Varieties that maintain the stability of these physiological parameters under adverse conditions are considered more resistant, which determines their suitability for introduction into arid climatic zones.
