Heat tolerance of garden strawberry is the ability of leaves to withstand high temperatures, with the critical level being 54–55°C, which causes massive tissue damage.

To assess the heat tolerance of garden strawberry, a method of thermal exposure of leaf blades at 50°C, 53°C, and 54°C is used, followed by calculating the percentage of tissue browning. At 50°C, most varieties show damage of no more than 5%, whereas 53°C leads to 5–30% leaf area damage, and 54°C causes critical changes in 50–80% of the tissue.
The low natural heat tolerance of the crop is a limiting factor, as high temperatures during the budding and flowering phases negatively affect fertilization and the initiation of generative buds. Resistant varieties under stress conditions demonstrate a lower degree of leaf and fruit damage, evaluated in field conditions at a level of 1.0 point.
