The variety is the result of controlled pollination of a female Hayward plant and a male plant grown from seeds of Chinese origin. Selection was carried out in 1990.

Ovoid-shaped fruits ripen 2–4 weeks earlier than the Hayward variety, but may be inferior in storage duration. Fruit ripeness at harvest affects their resistance to damage during storage, in particular to cold exposure.
