A perennial herbaceous plant 60–80 cm tall, belonging to the proliferum group. Instead of classic flowering, aerial bulbils form at the tips of hollow tubular leaves, which can bend the stems toward the ground under their own weight. Propagated vegetatively by rooting aerial bulbils or by division of the clump.
The plant is capable of growing in one location for 3–5 years, after which replanting is required. It possesses high winter hardiness and resistance to onion diseases. Young leaves, aerial bulbils, and underground bulbs, which have a mild taste, are consumed. It can also be used for ornamental purposes.
