The bulb of the variety is characterized by yellow or copper-colored skins. In shape, it resembles the Rouge pâle de Niort variety, however, it is less flat and distinguished by a more saturated yellow-copper hue.

The variety was historically intended for autumn cultivation. In modern plant genetic resource databases, De Lescure is classified as a traditional heirloom variety.
