This is a local variety formed as a result of long-term folk selection based on the 'porro lungo d'inverno' variety. The plant belongs to winter types and is characterized by a long thin stem, with the edible white part reaching up to 60 cm in length.
The produce has a sweet taste and low fibrousness due to the low content of lignin and cellulose. The characteristics of the plant are inextricably linked to the local microclimate and soil composition of the Stura river valley, and its cultivation methods are based on traditional manual practices.
