The variety has large, dark green, semi-spreading leaves and wide, fleshy petioles with a delicate taste. During thermal processing, the purple color of the petioles is lost, turning green; therefore, fresh consumption is preferred.
The plant is hardy and resistant to growing conditions, but sensitive to frosts. Agricultural practices include cultivation via seedlings, with sowing from February to April and transplanting into open field in May–June. To obtain more tender petioles, earthing up or tying the plants is applied 20 days before harvest.
