The Tavrychanka 5 variety was developed as a result of breeding work to improve the agronomically valuable traits of the original Tavrychanka variety, aimed at increasing oil content. In agronomic literature, there are discrepancies regarding the species classification of the variety, which is mentioned in the context of both Brassica juncea and Sinapis alba.
Seeds are characterized by an oil content of up to 43%. Early publications noted the presence of erucic acid in the composition of breeding samples. When agronomic practices are followed, the variety is capable of providing a seed yield at the level of 25 c/ha, in some cases reaching up to 30 c/ha. The crop is used as an oilseed plant and as a green manure.
