The variety was bred based on research conducted at the Kvithamar research station. During breeding, five different lines of the "Langendijker" variety adapted to growing conditions in the Rogaland region were used.

The primary purpose of the variety is for human consumption. The variety was created with the goal of obtaining produce suitable for long-term storage, which was particularly relevant for the conditions of the Trøndelag region.
