The Des Vertus Marteau variety is an old French turnip variety known since 1890. The root crops have an elongated cylindrical shape, their length reaches about 15 cm, and the skin color is white.

The plant belongs to early-maturing varieties, the period from germination to maturity is 35–45 days. The flesh of the root crops is firm, tender, has a mild taste and is suitable for baking or making purees.
