The variety is a dense shrub 30–35 cm in height with a crown diameter of 45–60 cm. It has small scale-like leaves with a golden dusting. A synonym for the variety is «Gold Star».
The plant is slow-growing, prefers acidic, well-drained soils and sunny locations; light partial shade is acceptable. Used in rock gardens, rockeries, borders, and container gardening.
