The De Isla variety is a traditional local crop, preserved by farmers in the Isla region as part of cultural heritage. Unlike modern commercial hybrids, it does not have a standardized description of agronomic characteristics, such as plant height or maturity periods.
The fruits of this variety are distinguished by a fleshy structure and a pronounced flavor. The main purpose of the pepper is culinary use: it is traditionally roasted over coals, canned in its own juice, and also used for making sauces and jams.
