Plants reach a height of about 60 cm. The fruits have a 'semi-horn' shape and an average length of about 15 cm. The ecotype is characterized by the concentration of the main harvest on the lower tiers, which can limit plant development; therefore, thinning of fruits on the first tiers and the installation of supports are recommended to maintain productivity.
The variety is considered versatile, but the priority methods of use are fresh consumption and drying. Fruits are often harvested at the stage of incomplete maturity, woven into 'braids', or dried on racks for subsequent preparation of crispy dishes or grinding into powder for sausages.
The ecotype is well adapted to the conditions of the warm and dry climate of the Middle Crati Valley. It is officially recognized as a traditional agri-food product in Italy and is protected by local initiatives for the conservation of biodiversity.
