Variety description

10 August 2026

Bionda di Mercogliano is an ancient local ecotype cultivated in the Campania region. The variety is not a result of breeding, but was formed through centuries of selection by local farmers.

The fruits of the variety are characterized as large; they are highly valued for their aesthetic and taste qualities in the premium market. The variety is classified as intended for fresh consumption.

The trees are susceptible to the risk of infection by diseases typical for European varieties, such as chestnut blight caused by Cryphonectria parasitica and ink disease caused by fungi of the genus Phytophthora.
