The variety belongs to local landraces conserved under genetic programs. It is characterized by late bud break and an extended period from flowering to harvest. The variety's produce is in demand on the market for fresh consumption.

An important characteristic is the low storage potential of the fruits. Physiological studies in the Vila Real region showed that trees of this variety maintain leaf water balance better during dry summer periods compared to a number of other varieties.
