The variety is a landrace historically cultivated in Garfagnana and Lucchesia. It is included in the regional registers of genetic resources of Tuscany as a cultivated variety of Castanea sativa.

The variety does not belong to industrial types, therefore detailed agronomic indicators, such as tree height, disease resistance, or yield, are not provided in the literature. The use of the variety is historically associated with the traditional consumption of fruits as an important source of nutrition in local culture.
