Fruits of the Bária variety are distinguished by their large size, averaging approximately 82 units per kilogram. They possess a pronounced sweet taste with a faint aroma.

The variety is used in breeding programs, including the creation of interspecific hybrids with Castanea crenata to study resistance to diseases such as Phytophthora cinnamomi. The fruits of the variety are included in products with the protected regional origin designation Castanha de Marvão.
