The variety is a triploid hybrid obtained as a result of crossing Temple tangor, Dancy mandarin, and Encore mandarin. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth, reaches medium or large size, and has a spreading canopy shape. Young specimens can be thorny, which complicates care and harvesting.
The fruits are large, oblate in shape, weighing about 175 g and 75–88 mm in diameter. The rind is bright orange or orange-red in color, peels easily from the flesh, and the texture can vary from smooth to slightly rough. The flesh is bright orange, juicy, sweet with good acidity, and practically seedless.
The variety belongs to the late-maturing group: under California conditions, fruits ripen from January to March and are capable of remaining on the tree for 2–3 months after ripening. The plant has a tendency toward alternate bearing.
