The variety is classified as late-ripening. The fruits contain very few seeds or are practically seedless, making them suitable for industrial processing and fresh consumption.

Morphologically, the tree bears a resemblance to the Washington Navel variety. The fruits have a smooth peel and possess a small navel or lack it entirely.

The variety is of Spanish origin and is traditional for this region. In official lists, the variety may appear under the synonyms Alberola, Bedmar, Bernia, and Verna.
