The variety is the result of interspecific hybridization based on the use of Cleopatra mandarin and Poncirus trifoliata. The breeding program aims to obtain rootstocks that provide tree size control, including the creation of dwarf and semi-dwarf forms.

The purpose of the variety is to improve the resistance of citrus crops to soil salinity, lime-induced chlorosis, waterlogging, as well as to citrus tristeza virus, Phytophthora, and nematodes.
