The rootstock is a hybrid of Cleopatra mandarin (Citrus reshni) and trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata cultivar 'Rubidoux'). Its main purpose is to control the size of the grafted tree, which facilitates the formation of intensive plantings.
The plant possesses high resistance to citrus tristeza virus (CTV) and fungal diseases of the genus Phytophthora. It is adapted to complex soil conditions, including salinity, calcareous soils with a risk of iron-deficiency chlorosis, and episodic waterlogging.
The use of this rootstock affects the characteristics of the grafted variety, including fruit size, which on F-A 13 may have a smaller caliber compared to the use of vigorous rootstocks.
