The variety is a vigorous tree that outwardly resembles trifoliate orange with characteristic trifoliate leaves. The plant is evergreen or semi-evergreen. The fruits are medium to small in size with a smooth peel, contain many seeds, and are characterized by a sour, bitter taste, and are therefore not consumed fresh.

The plant possesses good frost resistance down to -10 °C. It is characterized by resistance to citrus tristeza virus, xyloporosis, and Phytophthora, but is sensitive to the fungus Armillaria mellea and the exocortis virus. The variety does not tolerate waterlogged, heavy clay, saline, or calcareous soils, requiring high-quality drainage.

In professional citrus cultivation, this hybrid is considered practically identical to the Carrizo variety. Fruit ripening occurs in the winter period, earlier than that of a number of other common rootstocks.
