Variety description

10 August 2026

The name Augustnuss was used in various German-speaking regions to designate wild-growing hazelnut forms whose fruits ripened as early as August. This is not a breeding achievement; therefore, standardized economic traits such as yield or disease resistance are absent for it.

In historical sources, this name was also applied to other species and varieties of nut-bearing plants, including Corylus colurna and red-leaved forms of Corylus maxima. The status of the name is defined as a trivial synonym that was historically used by the local population to identify early hazelnuts.
