ActiveCorylus avellana L. · Common hazel
WEISSMANN (FR)
10 August 2026
The vigorously growing shrub reaches a height of 3.5–5 meters. The leaves have a distinct red shade, which provides the plant with ornamental properties. The variety is a hybrid obtained by crossing Corylus avellana and red-leaved hazelnut.
The fruits are large, elongated, with a weight of 5 to 10 grams, collected in clusters of up to 8 pieces. The shell is thin, dark crimson or pinkish in color. The kernel possesses a dessert taste, and the kernel yield is about 54%.
The variety belongs to the mid-season maturity group; the harvest is gathered in mid-to-late September. The plant is characterized by high frost resistance. To ensure stable yield, cross-pollination with green-leaved varieties is required.
