Variety description

10 August 2026

The FAVIGNA variety is a traditional Sicilian ethno-variety of common hazel. It is a local variety that is not a product of modern breeding.

The main economic feature of the variety is its low ability to produce root suckers. Due to this trait, FAVIGNA is considered a promising material for use as a rootstock, allowing for a reduction in costs for sprout removal during plantation maintenance.
