The Eta variety was obtained as a result of a controlled cross between OSU 581.039 and OSU 553.090. The plant is characterized by an upright canopy shape, and the size of a mature tree is about 75% of the dimensions of the Barcelona variety. The nuts of the variety are small in size, therefore this variety is not intended for commercial production and is used exclusively as a pollinizer.
The plant possesses a high level of resistance to Eastern Filbert Blight, caused by the presence of the Gasaway dominant allele. To ensure effective cross-pollination, specialists recommend planting this variety in orchards at a ratio of 1:2, so that pollinizers make up to 15% of the total number of trees.
