The rootstock was selected in France from Provence quince seedlings. It is a vegetatively propagated semi-dwarf or semi-vigorous rootstock, which is widely used in nursery production for grafting pear.

Pear trees grafted onto this rootstock reach a height of 3–4 meters, which is 30% less than when using seed rootstocks. The plant is characterized by good compatibility with most pear varieties and high resistance to brown leaf spot.

The root system of the rootstock is capable of withstanding soil temperature drops down to -27 °C in snowless winters. The use of this rootstock promotes early entry of grafted varieties into fruiting, usually in the third year after planting, and ensures an increase in fruit quality.
