The Donatello variety is a product of breeding local Romanesco artichoke populations. Plants of this variety are propagated vegetatively and are intended for the production of goods with the Protected Geographical Indication Carciofo Romanesco del Lazio.

The plant belongs to the late-maturing group of varieties and is characterized by high vegetative mass compared to similar clones. The heads are medium-sized and spineless.

The variety is used in studies on the conservation of genetic resources and adaptation to local cultivation conditions, although detailed information on disease resistance is not provided in the publications.
