The plant reaches 5–15 cm in height and 7–20 cm in diameter. It forms a dense basal rosette consisting of fleshy, stiff, triangular-shaped leaves. Leaf color varies from light to medium green, often with a reddish or brownish border on the tips.

The species is native to Mexico and is drought-tolerant. The plant is not frost-resistant, so the optimal temperature for wintering is +5...+10 °C. It is used primarily as an ornamental potted plant for interiors, winter gardens, and summer container landscaping.
