The variety is an ornamental aquatic plant forming a leaf rosette 40 cm or more in height. Young leaves have a reddish hue that changes to green upon maturity; the leaf surface may have a slight waviness.
The plant is intended for planting in the midground or background of an aquarium. The variety is relatively undemanding, capable of developing under medium light intensity and a water temperature of 18 to 28°C. It is often used in breeding work to develop other Echinodorus varieties.
