The plant belongs to dwarf varieties, reaching a height of 10–20 cm. Leaf blades have a length of 10–20 cm and a width of 2–4 cm; leaf margins are slightly wavy. Older leaves acquire a greenish tint over time.

The variety is characterized by a moderate or fast growth rate and ease of maintenance. It propagates vegetatively by forming daughter plants on flower stalks and by rhizome division; it is capable of growing in an emersed form. In a number of nurseries, it is found under the trade name Echinodorus «Purpurea».
