The variety Eva Gold (also known as Eva) is a compact globular shrub 30–40 cm in height. The variety is a spontaneous mutation of Erica x darleyensis 'Kramer’s Rote'.
The foliage is ornamental throughout the year: it is light green in spring, acquires a golden hue in summer, and turns bronze or orange in winter. Purple-pink flowers bloom from November-December to April.
The plant is characterized by good winter hardiness down to -15°C...-25°C and is not prone to lodging. Unlike many other heathers, this hybrid can grow in slightly acidic, neutral, and slightly alkaline soils provided there is good drainage and sufficient lighting.
