Perennial herbaceous plant with a bushy, dense form. The height of specimens varies from 30–45 cm to 120–150 cm; when grown in full sun, mature plants can reach over 1.8 m. The leaves are narrow, oblong-lanceolate, up to 15 cm long, have a yellowish-green hue, and are arranged in whorls.

The inflorescences consist of bright yellow bracts with a contrasting orange margin, while the true flowers are inconspicuous. Flowering occurs in June–July. The plant is resistant to diseases, pests, and deer. Recommended for USDA hardiness zones 4–9, prefers full sun and well-drained soils, sensitive to waterlogging.
