Variety description

The plant is a natural mutation of the Redwing variety. The formed dense bush reaches a height of 30 to 60 cm with a comparable width. The leaves are narrow, lanceolate, of a rich dark purple shade, which intensifies when grown in full sun; the stems have a reddish hue.

Flowering occurs from March to May. Small flowers are surrounded by contrasting yellow-green bracts. The variety is drought tolerant after establishment and has winter hardiness in USDA zones 6–9. The plant contains toxic milky sap capable of causing skin irritation.
