The Dovey variety is used primarily as a pasture and forage crop. The plant belongs to temperate-type varieties, which are characterized by a very early flowering and heading date.
Distinctive features of the variety are high seed germination energy, as well as the absence of endophytes. The latter eliminates the risk of the plant producing toxic alkaloids, which are dangerous for livestock, but makes the crop more sensitive to stress and insect impact.
In agricultural trials, the variety demonstrates average dry matter productivity during the summer period. The plant possesses a developed root system, typical for this species, and is used as a standard forage variety in regional programs.
