The variety belongs to the continental type and is distinguished by active growth in the spring-summer period with slow development in winter. The plant forms dense tussocks with an erect habit; its leaves are characterized by toughness, which causes low palatability for livestock in comparison with modern soft-leaved varieties.
The variety possesses high drought tolerance and is adapted to a wide range of soils, including clay, periodically waterlogged, and moderately saline areas. It is used as a forage crop for cattle and sheep grazing, as well as a standard for testing new breeding lines.
