The variety is characterized as exceptionally fine-leaved, which distinguishes it from typical wild forms of this species, which possess coarser leaves. The plant is able to adapt to conditions ranging from moist to arid and to form a dense sward.

The variety was intended for use in pasture mixtures designed for intensive use. Later observations revealed shortcomings in forage digestibility, juvenile period development, and resistance to foliar diseases in comparison with more modern breeding achievements.
