The variety is a perennial loose-tufted tall grass with a chromosome set of 2n = 6x = 42. In breeding programs, it is used as an object for studying genetic variability and creating interspecific hybrids, particularly when crossed with ryegrass.

The plant possesses resistance to Fusarium, which allows it to successfully grow in association with orchardgrass. The variety is intended for forage; however, due to its historical origin, it is found more often in scientific publications dedicated to the genetics of forage grasses than in modern commercial catalogs.
