The variety belongs to the group of fine-leaved fescues, although its species affiliation is debated: there are suggestions of links to both Festuca ovina and Festuca longifolia. The plant has a deep dark green color; a variant called 'Azay Blue' with a blue-green foliage hue also exists.
The plant is characterized by slow growth, which reduces the need for frequent mowing. The variety possesses high cold and drought tolerance, tolerates shading, and is capable of developing in poor, acidic soils. It is used for landscaping roadsides, slopes, and shaded areas with low maintenance requirements.
