Festuca ovina L. Sheep's fescue · Agricultural · bred by SAATZUCHT STEINACH GMBH and CO KG

also searched as: борнито

Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety forms a dense, thick turf with very fine leaves of green or dark green color. Being a hexaploid species with 42 chromosomes, this variety differs from true sheep fescue (Festuca ovina), which is a tetraploid.

The plant grows slowly, which reduces mowing frequency, and possesses high drought tolerance due to a well-developed root system. The variety is undemanding regarding nutrients, tolerates poor dry soils well, and withstands slight shading.

High resistance to Fusarium and red thread is noted, which allows for a reduction in the need for fungicide application. It is used for landscaping slopes, roadsides, parks, and creating lawn grass mixtures.
