Variety description

10 August 2026

The Norild variety was selected in the Finnmark region based on a local population collected in Harstad. It is a synthetic population intended for use in the conditions of northern regions, including Norway and Iceland.

The plant is characterized by high winter hardiness and good adaptability to harsh climatic conditions. In agronomic studies, the variety is often used as a control when testing new types of grasses and comparing the productivity of forage mixtures.

In terms of forage quality, the variety is comparable to Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis), but surpasses it in the rate of establishment and the volume of dry matter yield in the first year after sowing.
